Keep Your Teeth Strong And Healthy

By October 29, 2014 No Comments

Who wants rotten teeth? Not only can they cause a lot of pain, but they aren’t pretty to look at, either. You are lucky to have the ability to avoid this situation because you now have information about good dental care. Use this advice to make sure your teeth stay healthy.

Prevention is the key to avoiding expensive dental work. Most dental problems are completely avoidable when you take preventative measures. Some important preventative measures are brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing daily, and seeing the dentist for a teeth cleaning once yearly. Avoiding sugary drinks and soft drinks will also help.

Remember that you are what you eat, and so are your teeth. If you smoke a lot and drink red wine often, your teeth do get discolored. If you want whiter teeth, change what you eat. If it’s dark going on your mouth, your teeth are going to get dark from it.

Eat as many citrus fruits as possible to keep your teeth healthy. Vitamin C helps your teeth stay strong, so you are less likely to have tooth decay if you eat plenty of oranges, lemons limes and other citrus fruits each day. However, sucking oranges or lemons can put your teeth in contact with acid that contributes to decay.

If you have anxiety about going to the dentist you are not alone. Many people fear the trip to the dentist, but there really is no reason to be nervous. All of the staff are highly trained and do their best to make sure you are comfortable, whether you are in for a simple cleaning or a complicated oral surgery.

Examine your toothbrush several times a month. Look for signs that you might need to buy a new one. The bristles are often the first indication. If you see that they are becoming frayed, go out and purchase something else. In general, you shouldn’t go longer than four months without getting another brush.

When putting your baby to bed, do not allow them to keep a bottle in their mouths that contain juice or milk. This will cause the sugars in the liquid to settle on the teeth, which can cause all of their teeth to rot. If you must give them a bottle, it should be filled with plain water.

If you are serious about dental hygiene, it is imperative that you stop smoking. Smoking is terrible for your teeth in many ways. It discolours them, and damages your gums too. When your gums don’t get adequate blood supply, you are susceptible to many different health problems such as gum disease.

If you don’t like the taste or texture of toothpaste, consider instead using a paste of baking soda and water. This is a great formula for scrubbing the teeth gently while also leaving a healthy feeling to the mouth. Baking soda is all natural, so it won’t cause any problems when you use it.

Nobody likes to look at a mouthful of decaying teeth. Not a good look and probably very painful . So, practice proper dental care to make sure your teeth are well cared for.
